Expressions Choir was founded in the East Bay in January 2023 by Lou Veramessa and Maxwell Maynard. We created it because we love to play and sing in non-traditional ways. What started as a gathering of music lovers quickly became a vibrant home for deep connection, creativity, and self-expression.

Expressions welcomed singers of all backgrounds and experience levels—no sheet music or formal training required. Its repertoire reflected that spirit, blending folk, gospel, classical, indie, R&B, pop, and everything in between. More than a choir, Expressions became a place where people could find their inner child, their inner diva, their inner sailor, their inner goofy goober. We became a family who made something beautiful together.
